Oban Lorne Dalriada - Under 14 Match Report

A combined Lochaber/Mid Argyll U14 side played against Oban at their home ground on Saturday 23rd March. The match, 15 a side and played on a full pitch in bright conditions, was comfortably won by the combined side.

Individual profiles of the Lochaber boys are as follows:-
J J – front row - kept up with the general play and good throw-ins at the lineout, continuing good attendance at training is paying off.
Hayden – hooker – will continue to improve with more match practice and experience, a steady performance on the day.
Rainers – second row - a fit and strong player who worked his socks off, setting the example for others.
Aaron – flanker - started slowly, but by the end of the match was never far from the ball and beginning to impress.
Stewart – scrumhalf - small in stature but big in heart, didn’t get much of a chance to shine in this particular game.
Ronnie – centre - easily the best player on the park, almost unstoppable with the ball in hand and effective at the breakdown..
Zack – fullback and centre - was able to have a relatively quiet game for once, due to Ronnie and others taking on the pressure situations.
Josh – wing, but also filled in at centre and at tight forward - never put a foot wrong, didn’t get much of a chance to show his considerable skills.

The Mid Argyll boys, who made up the bulk of the combined side, train twice a week and look to have competent players in most positions. With the exception of the efforts of Ronnie and Rainers, they dominated the game. Some of the younger Lochaber boys struggled alongside their older, fitter and stronger team-mates. However, everyone who committed themselves to play in the match benefitted greatly from the experience, and just as importantly, enjoyed the day..
