Lochaber score 7 tries to beat Moffat RFC

Lochaber set the tone from the kick off when captain Callum MacDonald gathered the kick off and bumped off the first tackler sitting him down before giving the ball to Conor Taylor who went on a barnstorming run taking them up to the halfway line.

Lochabers first try came from a lineout 10m out when Alan Hamilton gathered the ball to set up a rolling maul. Rory MacKay broke away to get within 5m of the line but was tackled. From the resulting ruck Taylor picked up the ball swatting aside the first tackler before going straight through two defenders to score with Ryan Davies converting.

Their second try came from a shortened lineout just outside Moffats 22. The ball was given to the forwards in the midfield and a great run from Christopher Simpson made good ground before some quick offloads from Simpson to Findlay Ireland to Ally Weir to Alasdair Davidson to score in the corner. Davies converting from out wide to make it 14-0

A third try almost came this time from a Moffat lineout when Ireland intercepted the pass from 9 to 10 but it wasn't long before Lochaber were in for their third and once again things started off from their own lineout. Hamilton popped the ball off the top to Matt Murray who sprinted up the pitch avoiding several tackles before getting the ball to Davies then some quick hands between the centres Callum Boyd and Jonathan McCook set up Davidson for an inside ball who was dragged down just short of the line but Edward Murray John was there first and managed to stretch for the line in the tackle to score with Davies converting.

Lochaber had the bonus point wrapped up before half time when from the restart MacDonald once again gathered before popping the ball to Simpson who hit the line at pace, he bowled over the first defender then beat two more on the outside before passing the ball back inside to MacDonald who had Ireland flying up inside him to finish off the move and score.

The rain really started coming down in the second half but that didn't stop Ireland getting his second try of the game. Murray John made a break in the midfield beating two defenders before offloading in the tackle to Ireland who outpaced two more defenders to score in the corner.

Lochabers sixth try came after a 35m break from McCook, replacement scrum half Campbell Wilson fed Davies who placed a deft kick into the corner which was gathered by Ireland who almost got his third but for a try saving tackle, but before he went into touch he flicked the ball back inside to Simpson to dived for the line to score in the corner.

The replacements for Lochaber were making a big impact and no.8 Andy Bell made a big impact himself sending a would be tackler flying through the air with a clip already doing the rounds on social media.

Lochabers final try of the match came when Boyd was given the ball from the back of a scrum, he through a dummy before beating 7 defenders. MacKay was the quickest to react from the scrum and went sprinting off in support with Boyd giving him the ball almost 40 meters out he ran it in to score in the corner.

The final score was Lochaber 41-0 Moffat. Lochaber now have a bye this Saturday before returning to action when they travel to Lanark on 16th October. Lanark were the victors last time the sides met down there and Lochaber will be looking to put that right and have a strong squad to travel with.
