For over 40 years, the cooks of Lochaber Rugby Club have quietly kept one of our strongest traditions alive — providing good, home‑cooked food for visiting teams. It’s an essential part of the Lochaber welcome, something players and coaches of our visiting teams always comment on, and it’s been delivered season after season without anyone ever having to worry about it. They have never let us down.
This year, things are different.
Due to health issues affecting some of our regular cooks, we’ve found ourselves short of enough volunteers for this season’s home fixtures. For the first time in decades, this tradition needs support from the wider club community.
We’re reaching out to everyone in the club to explain extraordinary circumstances and asking if you are able to help? The help will be required on home game days for both senior teams which averages out at 2 games per month. If you are not into cooking (you just enjoy eating it.... I get it!) we also need people who are happy to roll up their sleeves and are offer a willing hand in the kitchen to help serve up / clear up / do the dishes to help keep this long standing service going.
As you know our post -match meals are not fancy - it’s simple, hearty, and filling e.g. : soups, pasta dishes, curry, chilli, and other easy home favourites, but it means a lot. It shows who we are as a club, both on and off the pitch and your support shows how much you care about your club. .
We’re looking for help from men and women, in any form:
Cook the full match‑day meal
or
Make a dish at home and drop it off
or
Help with serving, clearing up, or doing the dishes
Any level of support makes a difference, spreading the load is all we need.
