Youth Rugby Development - Assistance Sought from Volunteers/Parents/Ex Players

Our Under 16, and Under 18, boys will again be joining forces with players from Oban Lorne Rugby Club, to take part in league and cup competitions this coming season.

This arrangement provides our boys with the opportunity to play regular competitive rugby, against teams from well established clubs across the west of Scotland.

Being able to play regular age-group rugby, in structured competition, is an essential part in the continued development of our young players, as they move towards senior rugby.

Over the previous two seasons, we have relied heavily on a very small number of individuals to assist with transporting our boys to Oban for home matches, and to the Glasgow area, or sometimes much further a field, for away matches. This has meant that on some occasions, our mini rugby sessions held on Saturday mornings have suffered as a result, as coaches have had to leave early to transport our Under 18 boys to away games.

We are desperately seeking help from volunteers, whether it be parents, ex players, or anyone else who has some spare time to assist us to get our boys to the venues.

The Under 18 fixtures are all played on Saturdays, with the Under 16’s playing on Sundays. The kick off time for both age groups is normally 2pm.

Depending on the numbers travelling, the boys are taken to the game by car, 9 seater, or sometimes a 17 seat minibus. The larger vehicles are normally hired locally by the rugby club. Occasionally the boys get dropped off and picked up in Tyndrum for away games.

Ideally it would be great if we could secure the services of a number of volunteers, which will spread the workload, and give us options if our regular drivers aren’t available.

If you have some spare time on a Saturday or Sunday, and would like to help with the transport of our young players, it would be great to hear from you. No rugby experience is necessary, just the ability to drive and make sure our players arrive on time for games.

If you think you can help and would like additional information, please get in touch.
